William Lewis Obituary

William Carroll Lewis of Mountain Home, Arkansas, and formerly of Memphis, Tennessee, went home to be with the Lord on Dec. 31, 2022. He was 88 years old.

Bill was born in Memphis, Tennessee, on July 15, 1934, to Roy and Edith Lewis. He went to work for his dad and uncle at Lewis Sign Company in 1948. He worked in the sign industry until he retired. Bill was a graduate of Tech High School (Class of 1952). He graduated from Memphis State University with a Bachelor of Science: Sales degree (1958). He proudly served in the U.S. Army where he worked on the Sergeant Guided Missile project and as a radio operator in Italy. After he returned, he served in the National Guard for six years.

Bill married Rosemary Brigance on Oct. 14, 1961. They were happily married for 61 years and were an inspiration to those who knew them. Bill was a devout Christian. Whether he was serving as an Elder, Deacon, or singing in the choir, Bill was always happy to serve his Lord. He and Rosemary were members of Raleigh (Tennessee) Presbyterian Church for 37 years.

As a member of Bartlett (Tennessee) Methodist Church, Bill went on his first mission trip at the age of 68. Through various churches, Bill volunteered on Appalachian Service Project mission trips, working trips to Mexico and the Dominican Republic and wherever he was called. He and Rosemary are members of Fellowship Cumberland Presbyterian in Mountain Home, Arkansas. He was an avid fly fisherman, golfer, and a true-blue University of Memphis Tiger fan.

If you asked Bill what his greatest joy was, he would say his family. He is survived by his wife, Rosemary; their daughters, Kelley Hanks (Harrison, Arkansas) and Sarah Griffith; and his son-in-law, Kevin Griffith (Mountain Home, Arkansas). His pride and joy were his two granddaughters and grand sons-in-law, Anna Jennings (Cheston) and Sarah Moore (Nathan) and great-granddaughter, Moore, due in March 2023. They all reside in Harrison, Arkansas. He had a host of friends who he, and the family, consider family.

Our lives are truly richer for knowing and loving him. If you knew Bill, take a moment to celebrate his life by paying it forward or giving your time to others. He was that kind of gentleman.

The family held a private celebration of life. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Seeds Ministries, 3714 Gailyn Drive, Bartlett, TN 38135 or online at www.seedsministries.org.
