William “Bill” Edward Spaeth, Sr., age 87, of Mechanicsburg & Stone Harbor, NJ, died on Saturday, August 31, 2024. Bill was born on Sunday, July 25, 1937, in Philadelphia to the late William Stanley Spaeth and Alice (Savage) Spaeth. Bill was the widower of Marilou (Parry) Spaeth, whom he married on September 17, 1960, and who died on July 9, 2018. In addition to his parents and wife, Bill is preceded in death by his two sisters: Barbara Boyd and Helen Church.
Bill’s survivors include his two children: Gretchen S. Poliero and husband, C. John, of Haddonfield, NJ, William “Billy” E. Spaeth, Jr., of Brookhaven, GA; his three grandchildren: Jeffrey J. Poliero of Haddonfield, NJ, Lauren E. Poliero and husband Dylan C. Young of Pennsauken, NJ, and Charlotte A. Spaeth of Chicago, IL.
Bill was a dedicated and hardworking family man, admired for his ability to repair and fix anything. He had a deep affection for fishing and socializing with family and friends at the shore. Bill often expressed his conviction that he had married the love of his life. He will be dearly missed by all those fortunate enough to have known him.
All are welcome to join Bill’s family at his greeting of family and friends on Saturday, September 28, 2024, from 10:15 a.m. until the time of his service at 11:15 a.m. at Buhrig Funeral & Cremation, 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055. Burial will follow the service in Mechanicsburg Cemetery in Mechanicsburg, where military honors will be presented by the Cumberland County Honor Guard.
Contributions in celebration of Bill’s life can be made to St. Mary’s Church, 9425 3rd Avenue, Stone Harbor, NJ 08247.
