Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home - GilbertWilliam "Bill" Joseph Wudenich of Eveleth, affectionately known as "Uncle" died on Tuesday, March 24, 2026 in his home with family by his side. He was born on October 11, 1937 to John and Amanda (Pozega) Wudenich and lived his entire life in his childhood home.
Bill graduated from Eveleth High School in 1955 and then joined the male family members and went to work in the Oliver Mine. He then worked for an explosives company out of Biwabik, after being laid off he was hired at the Holiday Inn in Eveleth where he worked until retirement.
In retirement Bill took care of his sister Cathryn "Katie" who was more like a mother to him alongside his other sister Patsy. The three of them joked that they were like the three musketeers for many years because if you saw one, you saw all three.
Bill was a dedicated member of Resurrection Church in Eveleth, an avid Minnesota Gophers hockey fan, collected baseball hats, enjoyed arguing and hated talking about the weather. Bill was Suzie's constant companion whether it was a concert, a play, or just shopping. Uncle will be missed.
Uncle was the last living sibling of the original Wudenich family and was very proud of his Croatian heritage. He was preceded in death by his fifteen brothers and sisters, beloved nieces and nephews, and grand nieces and nephews and his parents.
Survivors include several nieces and nephews, including special nieces: Suzie, Laurie, Debra Jean, and nephews: Paul, Scottie and Jimmy, and several great nieces and nephews, too many to count.
Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday March 31, 2026 at Resurrection Catholic Church in Eveleth with Fr. David Forsman celebrating. Visitation will be one hour prior to Mass at the church. Internment will be in the Eveleth Cemetery. Arrangements are by the Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home of Gilbert. Memorials are kindly preferred.
The family wants to thank East Range Hospice for their dedication over the last year and especially his nurse Heather whom he grew to love.
