William Sherman Obituary

William (Billy) Chad Sherman, Jr. Billy was born on July 28, 1984 and departed this life on April 29, 2024. He left his loving parents, Chad and Karen Sherman; brother, Benjamin Sherman (Faith) and niece, Heidi Noel Sherman, whom he adored. Billy is also survived by uncles and aunts, Thomas G. Gegenheimer (Catherine), Lea Sherman Anzalotta (Orlando), Lesly Sherman, Kelly J. Gegenheimer (Susan). Billy was predeceased in death by his grandparents, Mrs. & Mrs. James & Gloria (Landry) Gegenheimer, William G. (Bill) Sherman, Dana Lea (Boots) Ingram Sherman and JoAnn Sherman. Billy loved and was loved by many surviving cousins of the Sherman, Gegenheimer and Ingram families, especially Ryan, Jeremy, James, and Henry Gegenheimer. He also had an extended family of those he assisted in his career in Human Services as a Peer and Crisis Counselor, in which he was highly certified. Billy was a gifted child whose vocabulary was broad, with reading and speaking an empowerment throughout his life. He attended St. Rosalie Elementary and Middle School and St. Stanislaus High School where he was active in the drama club and developed an ear for music and eye for art. Based on ACTs, and in a 95-98 percentile range in testing he received invitations from all state universities for application. As a youth Billy was active in sports at Kings Grant Playground. He became proficient in scouting skills and in service in both Pack and Troop 601. He developed his formation in the Catholic Faith at home, plus at St. Rosalie School, St. John Bosco Church, St. Stanislaus, and the Salesian Youth Group Ministry. He served as an altar server for many years through middle school and high school. Later, service to the community was bolstered by work with homeless missions and volunteering with a Salesian, ESL program. Billy had an incredible sense of humor with sharp wit and had an unsatiable appetite for knowledge, constantly seeking ideas with which to grow and share. Computer skills, especially Web and corporate Logo Design were his forte'. His greatest attribute was his faith in God, his love of people and desire to be effective in the world and share his love of family. He could and would befriend anyone, from prince to pauper, it made no difference as he sought the good in people always. Family gatherings were where he could take the time to tell us how much love and affection he had for each. His love for, and seeking of novel experiences, whether the lead singer in the CRITIC'S, or joining in on unique excursions cross country, or deep-sea fishing, backwater canoeing, rock-climbing, or joining the effort to create an art district, or through his artful expressions and loving writings, or help grow a community of growers, seekers, thinkers, and doers, or contributing to Bible group discussions, or any discussion, or debate…he did it his way. Billy and his way will be dearly missed. Love for him will never diminish. In lieu of flowers, please request Masses to be said for Billy or make donations in Billy's name to Archbishop Shaw High School. (ASHS, 1000 Salesian Ln Marrero, LA 70072, Attn: Fr. Steve Ryan). Family and friends are invited to attend the Visitation at St. John Bosco Catholic Church, 2114 Oakmere Street, Harvey, Louisiana on Tuesday, May 7, 2024 beginning at 9AM until 11AM. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. John Bosco Catholic Church in Harvey, Louisiana on Tuesday at 11AM. I would like to share my condolences to the family and friends of a great and compassionate person. He always introduced himself as Billy; however, I insisted on calling him William or Sherwin-Williams when he thought he knew everything. He and I worked together for a short time as a Peer Support Specialist. He did know his stuff and he was very passionate about it. Heck, he was passionate about everything. He knew what he wanted in life and he chased after it with everything he had. He may not have known his own strength. I know now, how strong he was and how much pride he had and how proud everyone was of him. Those who knew him and those just getting to know more about him will attest to this and will always, forever and eternally admire the man with the courage to take life wherever it was going. He never gave up on his dreams. He is an inspiration.

Billy was always friendly towards me and was very involved in every conversation I had with him. His goal was to be everyone's friend. He was a gentleman. Family gatherings will not be the same without him. RIP Billy... Jesus has you now.

I will always remember Billy as that curious and questioning boy who was at times mischievous. He was a childhood friend of my son Matthew and a teammate on several youth summer baseball teams including the 9&10 All Stars at the Kings Grant Playground. I coached with his Dad Chad and we all built a friendship through baseball over many summers. I will always have fond memories of Billy and those times we shared coaching and playing baseball. May his Soul Rest in Peace with Our Lord Jesus in his True Home in Heaven! Amen
