William Lamar Thomas, known affectionately as Billy, passed away peacefully at his home on October 4, 2023. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. Billy lived a fulfilling life as an electrician for Shaw Industries and touched the lives of many through his work and his kind-hearted nature.
Born on March 1, 1936, Billy was the son of Virgil Thomas and Annie Maude Mitchell. He grew up surrounded by love and support from his parents and siblings. Throughout his life, he remained close to his sisters Linda Evans, Mary Taylor, Martha Hall, Fran Franklin, and his brother Dennis Thomas.
Billy's proudest accomplishments extended beyond his career. He was a dedicated member of the Plainville Masonic Lodge #364, the Scottish Rite, and the Yaarab Shriner Temple. These organizations provided him with opportunities to make a difference in the community and help those in need.
Outside of work and community involvement, Billy found joy in farming and spending time with his horses and cows. He had a deep connection to the land and found solace in working with nature. He also enjoyed riding on wagon trains with his friends and family.
Billy's greatest source of pride was undoubtedly his family. He was married to Joyce Elizabeth Burnley Thomas for 62 years until her passing in 2020. Their love was an inspiration to all who knew them. Together they raised their children Keith Thomas, Brian Thomas, Shawn Thomas Sutton, and the children of their late son Steve Thomas, Jana Thomas Lindsey, Brenton, and Dustin Thomas.
In addition to his children, Billy leaves behind a beautiful legacy through his grandchildren Mallary Norton, Tyler Sutton, Jana Lindsey, Brenton Thomas, Dustin Thomas, Taylor Thomas. His great-grandchildren include Ashton Bentley, Chloe Norton Brady Sutton Azlin Sutton Kayson Stephens Baylee Stephens Phanuel Lindsey.
To honor Billy's memory and celebrate his well-lived life, funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, October 7, 2023, at 2 PM from the Chapel of Thomas Funeral Home with Reverend Marvin Jackson officiating. Interment will follow in the Thomas Family Cemetery in Plainville. Pallbearers serving will be Wade Gravitt, Allan Byars, Lennie Holbert, Cody Franklin, Dempsey Wright, Ray Bailey, Johnny Jacks, Barry Nix, and James Culberson.
The family will receive friends on Friday, October 6th from 6 PM to 9 PM at Thomas Funeral Home.

Billy's departure has left a void in the lives of all who knew him. His warm smile, gentle demeanor, and unwavering love will be sorely missed. May he rest in eternal peace, knowing that his memory lives on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to have known him.
