William Lawrence Bolinger, 90, of Cumberland passed away on July 25, 2025 at Sterling Care, Frostburg Village, surrounded by family.
Born on December 15, 1934, Bill was the son of the late Lester L. and Rhea (Robinette) Bolinger. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Betty Jenkins, sons-in-law Wayne Bridges Jr. and Timothy Parker, and lifelong friends, William (Bill) Shipway and Art Canfield.
Bill was a graduate of Fort Hill High School, class of 1954. He enlisted in the United States Army in December of 1956 and received an Honorable Discharge in December of 1958. Bill later enlisted in the US Army National Guard and served with the 115th Armor Headquarters before receiving an Honor Discharge as a Specialist in July of 1961.
After driving commercial trucks for several years, Bill was employed by Cumberland Steele until his retirement in 1987. He returned to driving and later retired from Allegany Ballistics Laboratory and Timbrook. Bill took great pride in his ability to give turn-by-turn directions to many locations around the country, even decades after his travels.
Bill was an active lifelong member of Kingsley United Methodist Church in Cumberland and later a member of Rawlings United Methodist Church. He enjoyed spending his free time with his grandkids and great-grandkids, often camping, fishing, retelling "Army stories" of his time in Paris, or talking about cars with any enthusiast who cared to chat. He and his wife Nancy enjoyed several years with the Queen City Region of the Antique Auto Club of America.
Bill was beloved by many. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Nancy (Diehl) Bolinger; daughters Cindi Stotler (Maryland), Donna Kirby (Pennsylvania), and Barbara Bridges and fiancé Terence Faux (Maryland); nine grandchildren: Andra Limbaugh and husband Andrew (Virginia), Nina Skinner and husband Greg (Rhode Island), Shannon Fowler and husband Rich (Pennsylvania), Kelsey Gallo and husband Chris (Maryland), Nathan Kirby and wife Jenna (Pennsylvania), Aaron Kirby and wife Jenn (Pennsylvania), Jeremy Bridges and wife Devin (Maryland), Brandon Stotler and wife Samantha (West Virginia), and Bradley Stotler (Maryland); great-grandchildren Abby, Juliana, Kaelyn, Owen, Carson, Logan, and Zoey; and a great-grandson on-the-way in December 2025. He is also survived by several beloved nieces, nephews and cousins.
