William Dawson Burge Sr.

William Dawson Burge, Sr was called home to be with the Lord on Friday December 12, 2025 at the age of 79. William was born August 15, 1946 to John and Virgie Burge. A lifelong resident of George County, William loved all things Lucedale. He was an active member of Union Missionary Baptist Church in his earlier days.

William is preceded in death by his father, John Woodie "Swifty" Burge; his mother, Virgie Mae Burge; his loving wife, June Rouse Burge; and his son, Wiliam Edward "Eddie" Burge.

Left to cherish his memory is his daughter, Lisa (Mark) Cates; his son, William Dawson Burge Jr; his grandchildren, Michael, Courtney, Candice Cates and Justin (Anna Claire) Burge; and two great granddaughters, Cora and Margot Burge; many cousins, nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews along with many special friends.

Sincere recognition would like to be made to his son William Burge Jr, who moved back to Lucedale and spent the last 14 months by his father's side; He was a blessing to his dad and family, and to a special group of ladies who went above and beyond in caring for William during his last days. God truly placed these women in his life and they were a blessing to him daily. Britney Brooks, his deaconess hospice nurse, showed him love with dignity; his around the clock caregivers, Ms. Barbara Boyd, Ms. Vickie Coulter, Ms. Aretha Hardy and Ms. Rachel Smith were truly the Lord's angels ministering to William.

A graveside service will be held at 3:00 pm on Monday, December 15, 2025 at Magnolia Cemetery, 328 Mill Street, Lucedale, MS with Rev. Larry Havard officiating.
