Reverand William A. Burrows Sr. 99 passed peacefully and went home to be with his Lord June 10, 2025, under Hospice care at the home of his son in Inwood, WV where he has lived for the past three and a half years. He was born in Richwood, WV on April 20, 1926, a son of the late Earl V. And Amanda J. Mullins Burrows.
Left to cherish his memory are children Carolyn L. (Sue) Littleton, William A. (Butch) Burrows Jr. and Jerry, Robert A. Burrows and Eddie and Charlene Robinson, 8 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and 25 great great grandchildren. He was proceeded in death by his wife of 72 years Edith Spencer Burrows. Also proceeding him in death were his parents and siblings James E. Burrows, Donald R. Burrows and sister Shelvia J. Stewert. He is survived by a brother Russell Burrows of Windsor, Colorado.
Bill enjoyed hunting and fishing, trips to Canada, attending and hosting family gatherings, putting out a garden, telling family stories especially about his beloved grandmother Ollie Stanley Mullins and his uncle William J. B. "Bill" Mullins who he always said was a second father figure to him. He loved sitting on the screened porch watching the rabbits, birds and squirrels with his furry companions Lacey and Luke. He was employed by Owens Illinois glass factory, later as a security guard for WVU, Prickett's Fort State Park and his last job before retiring at 92 years old was as a security guard at Marion Docks in Hoult, WV. He was a retired United Methodist minister of 35 years and gave his grandmother credit for him becoming a minister. He was a member of the Catawba Charge Choir. He lived in Hoult most of his life and was scout master for the local Boy Scout troop and a member of the Hoult and Sandford Improvement Association. He was always willing to help family, friends and strangers whenever he could. He enjoyed playing music and was able to play almost anything he picked up by ear. Bill had the ability to touch the hearts of everyone he met.
A special thank you goes out to his caretaker Kimberly Baker aka Kimmy who was devoted to Bill and always gave him such excellent care. He loved her taking him to eat and cruising and playing and singing hymns together while they cruised on the backroads and mountains of the Eastern Panhandle of WV. He always looked forward to her visits on Tuesday and Friday and she was always willing to go the extra mile to help when she could. Also, a big thanks goes out to Amy Shaw who checked on us daily. We also wish to thank Hospice of the Panhandle for their care and compassion.
Family and friends can gather at Carpenter & Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant Street, Fairmont, on Thursday June 12, 2025, from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm and on Friday June 13, 2025, from 12:00 pm until the time of the service at 1:00 pm.
