William Butler Obituary

William David Butler Jr., 79, passed away on May 4, 2025, at DuBois Nursing Home.

He was born Dec. 5, 1945, the son of William D. Butler Sr. and Mary (Lightner) Butler.

Bill received his Bachelor's Degree of Hotel & Restaurant Management from Penn State University and then completed his Master's Degree in Philosophy. He served as the Food Service Manager at Curwensville School District and later the Clearfield Area School District.

Mr. Butler was a U.S. Marine Vietnam Combat Zone Veteran. He was a recipient of the National Defense Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry Medal.

Bill was passionate about learning and had an inexhaustible font of knowledge which the loved to share all his life. Before there was Google, you asked Bill Butler. He could have been an inspiration for MacGyver and was always available for ideas and advice.

He loved to spend time in a canoe on Pennsylvania rivers or on skis in its woods and sharing these adventures with his family and friends.

Several generations from the region have heard him strumming his guitar and singing songs, many of which he wrote over the decades going all the way back to high school. He always made an impression and could be the life of any gathering.

Bill is survived by three children, Zachary Butler, Ethan Lott, and Joanna Lott and their mother, Katharine Butler; siblings, Richard G. Butler and wife Betsy of Clearfield, Joy A. Lhota and husband Rick of Clearfield, and Thomas A. Butler and wife Debbie of Clearfield; numerous nieces and nephews; and rescue cat, AllOfTheAbove aka Olive.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Donald Lee Butler.

A funeral service will be held at the Beardsley Funeral Home and Crematory, Clearfield on Saturday, May 10, 2025 at 11 a.m.

A visitation will be held at the funeral home on Friday, May 9, 2025 from 4-7 p.m. and again on Saturday from 10-11 a.m.

In my lifetime and anyone who knew Bill, for sure there was no one else like him. After a conversation however long or short, it would be rare that you didn´t walk away without learning a new outlook or knowledge on "Lord knows what ever comes up" subject matter. What an impressionable great person and man! All of our loss. Deepest condolences to all the family.
