Celebrating the Life of William Joseph Butler, Badge #3160
On Saturday, January 4th, Officer William Joseph Butler passed away peacefully in his sleep at the age of 90. He was born on October 24, 1934 in The Bronx, New York. His unwavering dedication and love for God, his family, and his 27 year tenure with The Dallas Police Department were evident throughout his life, inspiring many and leaving a lasting legacy. He was an Army Veteran, a faithful member of The Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, and The Knights of Columbus in 3rd and 4th degree. He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years and by identical twin daughters Shelby (Dallas), Sharon (husband John Destin, FL) and grandson Brandon (student Georgia Tech).
He had many interests, but his favorite was tennis. He was a competitor at heart and enjoyed competing against the younger officers on the police department. One of his legacies was working with a couple of other officers in laying down the foundation of the Deferred Retirement Option Plan pension program back in the '80s, an upgraded retirement plan that would and did enhance the financial welfare of his fellow colleagues and their families.
The Mass of Resurrection for Bill will take place at The Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church on Saturday, January 18th, 2025:
1:30 PM rosary
2 PM funeral mass and reception to follow
The family graciously appreciates your prayers, thoughts, and generosity. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Assist the Officer Foundation, since one of Bill's dearest causes takes care of Dallas police and fire responders, and their families, when help is needed the most. Therefore, if anyone wishes to honor his service and the Dallas Police Department, please go to https://atodallas.org/donate/ (https://atodallas.org/donate/) in dedication of Bill Butler.

"Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility, value others better than yourselves. Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others.
Bill's life reminds us of the value of humility in our relationships with others and our submission to God; and emphasizes love, responsibility, and spiritual leadership as the foundation for the wonderful husband, father, friend, and colleague that we all knew and loved.

Dear Aunt Pat, cousins Sharon and Shelby, my heart bleeds for you. My Uncle Bill was always a part of our lives and will always be loved.
My best memories will always be the time he came back to NY to spend precious time with my Mom near the end of her life. It meant so much to her and for me to see the love and joy she had for her brother.
I will always cherish the times when you all came up north to visit us, you will never know how much it means to me that we have those family memories. Praying for you always..
Love Chris Cathy Jennifer and Megan
