William G. Campbell, 84, of El Reno, Oklahoma, boarded the Heaven Express for his journey home to his Lord on July 1, 2023.
William was born on August 19, 1938 in Shamrock, Texas, to Edward W. and Zeda (Jones) Campbell. One of eight children, William came from humble beginnings, washing dishes standing atop a Coke box from the age of 12 where he learned his work ethic that he carried with him the rest of his life. He began a career of railroading with the Rock Island Railroad in the track maintenance gang. After two years, William was promoted to management as track supervisor, later working for KATY railroad. Upon retiring from the Union Pacific as a manager of engineering maintenance, William worked a total of 38 years. In retirement, he did community volunteer work with Habitat for Humanity, Blessing Baskets, Mobile Meals, The Lord's Harvest, LOGOS, and the Care Ministry. William and Peggy are active members in the First Christian Church of El Reno.
William married the love of his life, Peggy, on March 26, 1960, and together they started a family that they loved and adored. William and Peggy enjoyed 63 wonderful, happy years in love. They had two daughters, Carla and Carrie.
William, affectionately known as "Daddy," "Pa", "Bill", or "Willie", was a family-first man who radiated happiness and laughter with anyone who was around him. He led by example, and centered his values and family around his faith in the Lord. He adored his two daughters and his three grandchildren, and his great grandchildren were the special joy in his life.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Edd and Zeda Campbell, and sister, Margaret Faye Coward.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Peggy; two daughters, Carla and Willard Holsted and Carrie and Steven Reilly; three grandchildren, Landon and Angela Proctor, Logan and Britanee Proctor, and Lauren and Jordan Epps, two great-grandchildren, Harper Lee Epps and Finick Richard Epps, three brothers, Ed Campbell, Jerry Campbell, and Kenneth Campbell; and three sisters, Sue Lee, Zeda Hooten, and Teresa Biter, as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Services will be held at the First Christian Church in El Reno on Saturday, July 8, at 10:00 am. Graveside services will be held immediately following at El Reno Cemetery under the direction of Wilson Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Mobile Meals or First Christian Church El Reno.
