William Carr Obituary
William Mackey "Bill" Carr, Sr, 88 of Suffolk, VA, departed this world on June 21, 2025. Bill was born in Richmond, VA to Edward Jeffries Carr, Sr. and Lucy Mackey Carr. He was predeceased by his parents and brother, Edward J. "Ted" Carr, Jr.
Bill graduated from Manchester High School and served in the Army National Guard. In 1961, Bill and Frances moved to Suffolk where he worked for Webster Brick Company and then Century21 Brent Realty. He retired after 22 years with VDOT as a Senior Right of Way Agent.
Bill loved singing, especially barbershop, with The Commonwealth Chorus. After retiring, he was an avid race photographer as "MotorSports Photo News Service." He was a member of Suffolk Christian Church. He will be greatly missed and was dearly loved. And now, he is once again standing tall.
Bill is survived by his wife of 64 years, Frances Hughes Carr; daughter, Dabney H. Carr; son, William Mackey "Mack" Carr, Jr; grandson, William Mackey "Liam" Carr III; Heather Carr; nieces, Anne Hamilton Quick and Patti Carr Perry (Chris), plus an extended family of nieces, nephews, and loved ones.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, July 12, 2025, at 10 a.m. at Suffolk Christian Church, 216 N. Main Street, Suffolk, VA 23434. A Memorial Service will follow at 11 a.m., with a reception in the Fellowship Hall. Interment will be on Monday, July 14, 2025, at 11 a.m. at Forest Lawn Cemetery, 4000 Pilots Lane, Richmond, VA 23222.
