William Martin "Bill" Castner
Bill Castner died on June 27, 2022 in Bethesda, MD, due to a lingering heart condition. Bill was born on
February 5, 1952 in Pittsburgh to the late MM and Robert Castner. He is survived by his children as well
as his ex-wife, nine siblings, and many nieces and nephews. Following graduation from Pittsburgh
Central Catholic High School and St. John's College in Annapolis, Maryland, Bill lived in the DC area. Bill
also attended graduate school at Columbia University. Bill once reflected that he regretted deciding to
purchase a bike instead of one of the first Apple computers available to the public. But he made amends
for that mistake by becoming an accomplished freelance computer programmer and a Microsoft MVP.
Bill believed that the "magic" in helping others is that he learned more from those interactions than
from formal education. That philosophy aptly captures Bill. Bill will be interred at Calvary Cemetery in a
