Early in the morning of Friday, February 6, 2026, William Boyd Chisum of Mesquite, Texas, went home to Glory to spend eternity with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

William Boyd Chisum was born December 29, 1956, to William P. (Buddy) and Dorothy Hatfield Chisum in Lemesa, Texas. From birth to his death, Boyd endured a multitude of physical limitations and numerous surgeries. In spite of his suffering, he greeted each new day with joy and the determination to live his life to the fullest, always giving thanks and glory to God.

Boyd attended Carrizo High School, where he gained a reputation as an outstanding percussionist with the high school marching band. His percussionist skills soon took a backseat to his vocal talent. He was renowned for singing the National Anthem at Friday night football games and many other events. He competed and performed vocally and was well known for his beautiful and touching tenor voice.

Boyd earned a scholarship to Hardin Simmons University and also attended Oklahoma State University. He ended his college career and moved to Nashville, Tennessee, to pursue a career in country music. Through the 1980s and 1990s, he performed on stage with many famous country music celebrities. In 1980, he was honored to be invited to sing at the Grand Ole Opry at The Ryman Auditorium in Nashville.

In 1990, Boyd met and married Nena Marshall Chisum. They were married for more than 35 loving, cherished years. Their son, William Brock Chisum was born in 1996 and immediately became the light of Boyd's life. Brock was Boyd's greatest earthly blessing and treasure.

In 1998, in order to spend more time with his family, Boyd made a decision to change careers again. From Long Medical Institute in Phoenix, Arizona, he earned a degree in sports medicine/orthopedic medicine as a physician's assistant. Subsequently, he accepted a position with Orthopedic Associates of Dallas, as physicians assistant to Dr. Virgil Medlock. Boyd enjoyed his career in medicine and loved every day working with Dr. Medlock.

Boyd's next career brought him back to his first love of music and ministry through music. He is remembered for his 2007 Grammy and Dove Award nomination for his song "He Still Moves the Stone." Boyd penned and published three gospel books in addition to his many gospel songs and albums. He preached many revivals, leading a host of lost souls to the Lord. One of Boyd's greatest joys was singing with his gospel band, Relentless, with Roy Dale Bray, Chip Bricker and his own son, William Brock Chisum. Their group rounded out with the support of Steve Oglesby and Al Laconey. There has never been a group of brothers who loved the Lord and each other more than these men of God. Boyd was a member of Burning Hope Church, The National Association of Orthopedic Technologists and the Gospel Music Association.

Of all his vocations, endeavors, accomplishments and responsibilities that Boyd held most precious was God's gift to him of his son, Brock, and to raise him to be a Godly man. Boyd loved Brock with his whole heart, beyond anything on earth and wanted to be a wonderful, loving father. Job well done, Boyd!

Boyd was preceded in death by his parents, William 'Buddy' and Dorothy Chisum and his brother, James Andrew Chisum. He is survived by his devoted wife, Nena Chisum, his son, William Brock Chisum and Brock's fiancee, Madison Peppard, along with a multitude of beloved family members and friends.
