Cichowski, William (Bill) Gotfred; age 95; of Rochester Hills; April 23, 2025. Korean War veteran honorably discharged. Predeceased by his loving wife of 63 years, Mary; cherished father of Kurt (Laura) Cichowski, Kris (the late Ray) Nicholson, Karen (the late Don) Lewis, Sue Cichowski (Maddie Laule), and Robin (Ronald) Zielin; wonderful grandfather of seven; and great grandfather of nine. Predeceased by his sister Karna Marie Webster. Received bachelor's and master's degrees in mechanical engineering from University of Wisconsin.
Bill loved fly fishing, sailing, camping, traveling, cross-country skiing and building a family cottage in northern Michigan.
He enjoyed working with his engineering team on many automotive safety innovations including the energy absorbing steering column and the W-Beam Steel Guard Rail during his 40+ years with General Motors. He was a member of the Society of Automotive Engineers. Following his time with GM, Bill founded Cichowski Consulting and specialized in automotive accident litigation.
In retirement, Bill enjoyed tinkering with electronics and computers, gardening, flying, flower arranging and sitting on his deck enjoying the backyard wildlife visitors.
He enjoyed spending volunteer time at Meadow Brook Hall as a Master Gardener, Docent and Squires group (dedicated to preserving the historic estate), working out at the local YMCA and the Meadow Brook Health Enhancement Institute.
Memorial contributions may be made to Meadow Brook Hall's Squires or Gardening groups.
