William Huckaby Cook entered into eternal rest on May 2, 2025 at Christus Highland Medical Center in Shreveport.
He was 89 years old, a native of Grand Cane and resident for the past twenty years. He was a graduate of LSU and served in the National Guard at Fort Polk during the Berlin Crisis. Transferred to New Orleans in 1975, he worked at One Shell Square for Shell Oil Company as a pipeline contractor for 28 years. In retirement, he returned to his beloved Grand Cane where he served as Alderman and enjoyed the country life among friends and family. With his warm smile and hearty laugh, calming presence and quiet strength, he will be deeply and sorely missed.
In his last remaining years, Mr. Cook was lovingly cared for in his home by Stephanie Cook and Jayson McConnell.
Mr. Cook was preceded in death by his sisters, Sarah Mitchell of Ponchatoula and Billye Faye Herring of Farmerville; and his brother, Lodwrick Monroe Cook of Van Nuys, California. Survivors include his wife, Joyce Ann Cook of Grand Cane; his daughter, Stephanie Paige Cook of Grand Cane; his son, Dr. William Clayton Cook and his wife Allison Munson Cook of Shreveport; his granddaughter, Elizabeth Chapman Cook of Shreveport; and his grandson, William Clayton Joseph Cook of New Orleans.
A visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. with a service to follow at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 10, 2025 located at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 943 Polk St. Mansfield, LA 71052. Burial will be held at Grand Cane Cemetery. Officiating will be Bro. Permenter. Honoring Mr. Cook as pallbearers will be Mike Brown, Dave Permenter, Sammy Brown, Jayson McConnell, Dr. Chip Swinney, and Clayton Cook.
