William "Bill" Doss Crouch, Jr., also known as "Billy", a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on December 27, 2025, at the age of 83 in
Virginia Beach, Virginia. Born on January 17, 1942, in
Winchester, Tennessee, Bill lived a life defined by devotion to family, service to others, and a deep, unwavering faith.
Bill proudly served his country in the United States Navy as a Fire Control Technician aboard the USS Robert A. Owens (DD827), an experience that shaped his character and instilled in him a lifelong sense of purpose, discipline, and camaraderie. He retired from active duty in June 1967.
Prior to joining the military, Bill began his studies at the University of Tennessee. Following his service, Bill continued his education at Old Dominion University, where he earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology with the Class of 1971. He went on to excel in a fulfilling career as a Computer Programmer, retiring from the City of Chesapeake in 2012. Bill generously shared his knowledge, dedication, kindness, and wisdom - whether at work, at home, and in the many moments he spent helping family, friends, or neighbors in need.
A man of thoughtful passions, Bill often spent hours immersed in projects that reflected his patience and creativity. He was a seeker of knowledge and an avid reader who especially enjoyed Westerns and the Hardy Boys series. He cherished his family's trips to Tim's Ford State Park in Tennessee, where Crouch family reunions created treasured memories that lasted a lifetime. His enduring faith as a follower of Christ was central to his life, guiding his values and bringing him comfort, peace, and joy.
Bill and his wife, Brenda Crouch, found community and spiritual fulfillment at Knox Presbyterian Church, Kempsville Presbyterian Church, and Suburban Christian Church. Through fellowship and the study of God's word, Bill strengthened his faith and deepened the relationships that meant so much to him.
Bill was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Brenda (McManus) Crouch, whose memory he carried close to his heart every day; his parents, William Crouch Sr. and Anita (Wilson) Crouch, and his brother Harold Crouch.
He leaves behind those who loved him deeply and will forever carry his legacy: his daughter Rachel (Crouch) Caron and son-in-law, Brett Caron; his grandson Tyler Caron and wife Sally Caron; his granddaughter Inara Caron; his great-granddaughter Taylor Caron; his great-grandson Riley Caron; and his sister Kathryn (Crouch) Wall and husband Woody Wall. He is fondly remembered by many friends, colleagues, and extended family whose lives were enriched by his kindness, humility, and humor.
His family extends heartfelt thanks and gratitude to the doctors, nurses, and staff at Sentara Leigh Memorial, Sentara Norfolk General, and Sentara Princess Anne hospitals; his regular care team of doctors and specialists; the home health and hospice team; the DaVita Leigh Dialysis Center team; and the caregivers and facilitator of the care home that helped him during his final days. Your compassion will never be forgotten.
