William A. Dell

1942 - 2025

William A. "Bill" Dell passed away peacefully on November 13, 2025, in Glenwood Springs, Colorado, with his son by his side. He was 83 years old.
Bill was born in Los Angeles and spent his early childhood in Big Pine before moving to the San Fernando Valley as a young adult. Eventually, he found his lifelong home in the Alabama Hills of Lone Pine, where he lived for nearly 50 years and built a legacy rooted in service, craftsmanship, and unwavering pride in the Owens Valley.
Bill dedicated more than 40 years to the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power, working in the Power System and retiring as a Patrolman in 1996. His career reflected his work ethically, reliable, and quietly exceptional.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn, the love of his life. He is survived by their three children – Joe, Brian, and Brooke – and seven grandchildren who will carry forward his humor, grit, and deep respect for tradition.
Bill loved the Owens Valley fiercely and poured his heart, soul, and labor into strengthening its communities. From helping build the Lone Pine Sports Complex to supporting the FFA and countless other local projects, he showed up whenever something – or someone – needed fixing. A coach, a mentor, and a traditionalist, Bill had a gift for guiding others with his hands as much as with his words. He loved baseball, Budweiser, whiskey, and craps – but most of all, he loved building things.
A shared celebration of life for Bill and Marilyn will be held next spring in Lone Pine, with details to follow.
In lieu of flowers, Brian, Brooke, and Joe ask that you honor Bill by giving your time to a worthy community organization – just as he always did.
