William H. Downing, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on February 26, 2026, at the age of 85 in Riverhead, New York. Born on December 18, 1940, in Plymouth, North Carolina, William lived a life marked by love, dedication, and devotion to his family.
William was a proud father to his children: Della Ann, Timothy, Debra, Rena, Frankie, and Abian. He leaves behind a legacy that is honored by thirty-five grandchildren and twenty-five great-grandchildren, each of whom carried a piece of his heart with them. His unwavering love and support will be profoundly missed by all who had the privilege of sharing time with him.
In addition to his children and their families, William is survived by his beloved wife, Patsy, whose companionship brought joy and strength to his life. The bond they shared was a testament to a lasting partnership built on mutual respect, love, and understanding.
William's passing is marked by the memories of his son, Michael, Jonathan and Adrian, who have preceded him in death. Their absence is felt deeply, and their spirits remain a part of the family's collective memory, nurturing the love that continues through the generations.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate William's life during the memorial gatherings to be held at Tuthill-Mangano Funeral Home in Riverhead, New York. The gatherings will take place on March 6, 2026, starting from 2:00 PM to 4:30 PM and again from 7:00 PM to 9:30 PM. This occasion will offer everyone an opportunity to come together, reflect on William's impactful life, and share their fondest memories.
