William was born in Glinsk, County Galway, Ireland on April 8, 1946. The Dunne Family immigrated to Chicago, Illinois in 1960, where Bill became the biggest Notre Dame fan alive. At the age of 18, he joined the United States Navy. While serving in the Navy at Roosevelt Roads, Puerto Rico, he met and married his partner for life, Maria Providencia Dunne. He is survived by his son, Joseph Dunne and his wife Crystal and his grandchildren Miranda, Megan, Riley, Tyler, and Joseph Jr (Joey). Also survived by his daughter Irene Garrett and her husband Tom Garrett and their children Alyssa, Sean and Brandon. Bill also has his siblings in Chicago, Mary Abbott, Kathleen Dunne, Julie Linzer, and Thomas Dunne.
Bill retired from what he loved, the Navy as a Master Chief after 30 wonderful years of dedicated service where he met so many lifelong friends. This was easy for him to do as he never met a stranger. He always had a story or a joke to tell and captured everyone's hearts. He loved to meet the gang at Woodsie's in Pensacola on Friday afternoons, run by Irene's for a visit, and or end the day in Joe's barn for a beer before it got dark. Bill made his life about his family and did whatever he could to make sure everyone was content. His favorite season of the year was football season. Watching a Notre Dame football game with him was an annoying treat. All throughout the game, his phone would ring, or he would make a call to his brother TD saying, "did you see that play" or "I can't believe they did that". If you knew Bill Dunne, you loved him. He will be dearly missed.
