William (Bill) Andrew Ebert, 66, of
Stevens Point, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully on November 8, 2024 at home surrounded by family and friends, after a long battle with cancer.
Bill was born on April 28, 1958, in
Stevens Point, Wisconsin, the son of Paul Ebert and the late Florence (Molter) Ebert. Bill grew up in Rhinelander, Wisconsin. It was a perfect place for Bill, allowing him to spend many hours fishing, hunting, and camping in the northwoods. He had no problems getting around as most kids did in those days by biking everywhere. He played basketball in middle school and high school.
After high school, Bill moved to Madison to attend the University of Wisconsin- Madison and initially lived with his brother Steve. He learned that the traditional classroom was not for him and moved to UW-Stevens Point to earn a degree in Soils Science and worked at jobs that would fuel his passion for the outdoors. He would eventually work in land management for Portage County and the US Bureau of Land Management in Stevens Point. He taught farmers the ins and outs of land conservation to improve the quality of ground and water that we all share. It was here that he met Chris Ewer who was a farm loan officer in 2001.
On Bill and Chris' first date they laid all their cards on the table regarding past marriages, kids, and challenges. They moved in together shortly after courting. They purchased their dream home on the river in 2010 after renting two other homes together. Being able to retire early from the USDA, they both jumped at that opportunity to enjoy more time together. They enjoyed traveling, gardening, live music, and cooking. Four kids and six grandchildren between the both of them filled his heart with joy. Their love created a very large extended 'family' in the Stevens Point area. In their retirement they also loved snowbirding in the Florida panhandle.
Bill's love of the outdoors stayed with him throughout his life. Some of his favorite sporting activities included fishing – both summer and winter and hunting. Whether on the river in Stevens Point, any lake in Wisconsin or the beaches in the Florida panhandle, you would find Bill with a fishing pole and a smile! He was also an avid gardener and was found in his garden on many summer days relishing in the bounty of home grown produce. His family and friends benefitted from the harvest receiving canned goods and wine!
Bill had a real zest for life, his infectious personality was a gift and he made friends with everyone. He was a natural born leader. He always had joy in his heart and welcomed all into his life. He enjoyed life to the fullest.
Bill is survived by his daughter Rachel (Garett) Chisholm and their daughters Auden Beaudry and Riley Chisholm; devoted companion Chris Ewer and her 3 children, Sara Beth Ewer (Mike Friske) and their children Tully, Gemma, and Wyatt; Steven Ewer and daughter Cassidy Ewer, and Todd Ewer (Allison Birr). He is also survived by his father Paul, his brother Steve (Ann), his niece Madeline Ebert (Nolan Masterson), and his sister Paula (Dick) Scanlon. He was a source of joy to his aunt and uncle Pat (Molter) and Richard Henke, and to many cousins who looked forward to seeing him at annual reunions.
Bill was preceded in death by his mother Florence Ebert, grandparents Andrew and Edith (Biehl) Molter, William and Angeline (Konings) Ebert, aunt and uncles Judy (Molter) Galler, Peter and Juliet Molter, Vic Ebert, and Willard and Delores (Ebert) Henken, and step-nephew Eli Schreurs.
