William "Bill" F. Evans, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend passed away peacefully on September 29 2024, at the age of 86, in New Albany, Indiana. Born on November 14, 1937, in Jeffersonville, Indiana, he was a proud member of the local community throughout his life.
Bill dedicated himself to a rich and fulfilling career. He worked for Pillsbury for a decade before embarking on a new venture, establishing his own business as a ServiceMaster Franchisee, which he successfully operated for 27 years. His industrious spirit and commitment to excellence were a testament to his strong work ethic, and he served as a role model to many.
An honored veteran, he was inducted into the United States Air Force on November 28, 1955, in Louisville, Kentucky. During his four years of service, he was stationed in Korea and served as Air Police (AP).
Education was an important foundation for Bill. He graduated from Jeffersonville High School, and attended Indiana University Southeast. His inquisitive nature was evident in his many interests; he had a passion for history and enjoyed visiting historical sites. He found joy in traveling with his loved ones, making memories that would last a lifetime.
Bill’s life was full of simple pleasures as well. He cherished time spent bowling and golfing, and he had a special affinity for being around water. His love for family shone brightly, as he devoted countless hours to creating lasting bonds with those he held dear.
He is remembered lovingly by his wife of 64 years, Dolores "Dody"Evans. Together, they built a life filled with laughter, love, and unwavering support. Their bond was a cornerstone of their family, which includes his daughters, Tamara (Howard) Glas and Denise (Prabhakar) Govindarajan. Bill also rejoiced in being a grandfather to Jennifer (Marshall Reinhart) Glas, Andrew Wilburn, Evan (Tabor) Wilburn, and Daniel Wilburn, and a proud great-grandfather to Amelia, Desmond, Eloise, and William.
In addition to his immediate family, Bill is survived by his brothers, John (Carol) Evans and Ronald Evans, his sister, Judy McDaniel, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins, all of whom carry his spirit forward with love.
William "Bill" F. Evans was preceded in death by his loving parents, Robert and Hortense Evans, as well as his siblings, Robert, Sidney, and James Evans. They welcomed him with open arms, and his legacy will continue to inspire those who remain.
Friends and family are invited to honor his incredible life at Newcomer Funeral Home, Southern Indiana, located at 3309 Ballard Ln, New Albany, IN 47150. Visitation will be on Thursday, October 3, 2024, from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM, followed by a Funeral Service on Friday, October 4, 2024, at 11:00 AM. As we gather to remember Bill’s life and share in our collective grief, let us celebrate the joy he brought into our lives-a legacy of love, kindness, and strength.
