William Ewing Jr., son of the late William and Florence Ewing (nee Cocker), passed away peacefully in his sleep on Tuesday, July 1, 2025 at the age of 70.
William (aka Bill) is preceded in death by his loving wife Lorraine (nee Taylor), who he was married to for 41 years. He was the beloved father to Nicole Castle ( Eugene aka ‘Gene’) and Kimberly Ewing (Avi Rivenson). Loving and proud grandfather of Hunter Hamilton, Chase Castle, Carly Castle and Wesson Rivenson. He will be missed by his siblings, Candice Bonecorse (Steve), Christopher Ewing, Michael Ewing(Michele), Shawn Ewing(Diane), Kerron Wilson (the late Tom Wilson and the late John Lamond) and Colin Ewing(Sherry); along with his many nieces, nephews, cousins, and many other family and friends.
Bill was the eldest of 7 children born to his mom and dad. He took great pride in the role of big brother. Bill helped take care of his siblings from an early age, and was always happy to do so. He grew to be a hard worker and held many jobs throughout the years, with the last being with IKEA. Bill always prided himself on being the best provider to his family that he could.
He married the love of his life Lorraine in May of 1982, surrounded by all their family and friends at Christ the King Catholic Church in Philadelphia. They later welcomed their daughters Nicole in 1985 and Kimberly in 1988.
Bill was an avid sports fan; especially of the Philadelphia Eagles and Phillies. He loved to take his daughters and later grandchildren to Phillies games. His one wish in life that he wanted to see fulfilled was for the Eagles to win a Superbowl. He got his wish in 2017 and then it doubled in 2025.
Bill also loved history, specifically the American Civil War era. He was always watching or reading something new about it. At one point in his life he even joined a group of reenactors who would travel to famous battlefields and reenact those very battles. He loved touring the country before and after that time to see battlefields as well.
Bill loved all things comics, Dr. Who, Star Trek and Star Wars ( yes, it’s possible to love both). He even got to meet Stan Lee in 2012 at MegaCon in Orlando, FL.
Family was everything to Bill. He was the gentle giant of that family. Always wanting peace and he lead by that example. He is loved and missed by so many.
We invite family and friends to celebrate Bill’s life on July 12, 2025 starting at 9:00am until 11:00am. A Prayer Service will follow shortly after the viewing. All Services will be held at Slabinski Sucharski Funeral Home: 2614 Orthodox Street Philadelphia, Pa 19137.
As per his wishes, he will then be cremated and buried at Hillside Cemetery at later date with Lorraine. Information will be forthcoming.
Bill’s request was that his family and friends attend his services in Philly sports attire ( especially Eagles and Phillies) if they wanted to.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Eagles Autism Foundation, in honor of his grandsons, would be appreciated. Please use the link:
