William W. Filby Jr.

William W. "Bill" Filby Jr., 79, passed away on Sunday, June 22, 2025, in his home surrounded by his family. Bill was born on December 30, 1945, in Coal Center, a son of the late William Sr. and Helvi Flanders Filby. He graduated from the California Area High School and was enlisted in the United States Air Force as a Sergeant. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and the Air Force Good Conduct Medal. Following the service, he was employed as a Machinist for Elliot Support Services in Donora, from where he retired after many years. Family was very important to Bill and he enjoyed watching his grandchildren in their various sporting events. He also enjoyed hunting, and his many trips to the family cabin in Potter County. He was a Life Long member of the Centerville American Legion and served as Commander for several years. He leaves behind three daughters: Linda Mihalcin (Robert) of Charleroi, Tina Filby (Richard Power) of Brownsville and Lora O'Neil (David) also of Charleroi; four grandchildren: Baylee Workman (Ryan), Brayden Mihalcin, Tyler and Taryn O'Neil; and three brothers: Robert, Richard and John Filby. Preceding him in death, in addition to his parents, are his wife Rose M. Filby, who passed away on July 5, 2015; nephew, Justin Filby; and sister-in-law, Bonnie Filby. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday June 26, in the John B. Greenlee Funeral Home Ltd., 2830 Main Street, Beallsville, where Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, with Deacon Al Poroda officiating. Interment will follow in the Westland Cemetery, where Military Honors will be conducted by the United States Air Force and the Centerville American Legion.
