William Roger Gaskey, known affectionately as Roger by his friends and family, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 3, 2025, at the Medical Center in Bowling Green, Kentucky. Born on Monday, December 21, 1942, in Butler County, Kentucky, Roger's life was a testament to his enduring love for his family, his community, and his passions.
Roger was preceded in death by his parents, Virgil R. and Rosie Jane Johnson Gaskey, his brother Virgil Gaskey, his sister Louise Gaskey, and his beloved nephews Ricky Gaskey, Tommy Bratcher, and niece Reda Duncan. His legacy, however, continues through his devoted wife of 55 years, Donna Belcher Gaskey, whom he married on February 4, 1970. Together, they raised a loving family that includes five sons: Jason Gaskey of Morgantown, KY, Dustin Gaskey (Ashley) of Auburn, KY, Jimmy Gaskey of Morgantown, KY, Scott Gaskey (Rhonda) of Cromwell, KY, and Donald Wayne Hunt of Bowling Green, KY.
Roger's joy was multiplied by his seven grandchildren: Sydnee Claypool of Franklin, NC, Saul and Sawyer Gaskey of Auburn, KY, Nick Gaskey (Shelby) of Morgantown, KY, Cheyanne Ludovissie (Jordan) of Paduach, KY, Seth Gaskey (Katie) of Morgantown, KY, and Virgil Gaskey (Storm Hunter) of Tampa, FL. His four great-grandchildren brought him immense happiness, as did his cherished nephews Tony Bratcher of Indianapolis, Indiana, Steve Gaskey of Olathe, Kansas, and nieces Teresa Saltsman of Indianapolis, Indiana, and Linda Gay of Kansas.
Roger's professional life was marked by dedication and hard work. He retired from Gary Brothers and Rinker Materials after 33 years of service. His commitment to his community was evident through his 27 years of service on the Morgantown City Council. Roger was also a proud Veteran of the Kentucky National Guard, member of the Cassia Masonic Lodge #272 and an active participant in the Butler County Republican Party.
His contributions to local sports were significant, as he was instrumental in starting up the Butler County Little League and spent several years coaching Little League Baseball, shaping the lives of young athletes. Roger's love for sports extended to watching UK Basketball, Butler County High School, and Murray State Softball, especially when his great-niece Cheyanne played. He also enjoyed watching his grandchildren excel in archery and softball.
Roger's interests were diverse and reflected his zest for life. He was an avid golfer, a political enthusiast, and a dedicated fan of various sports. His sense of humor, loving nature, and optimistic outlook on life made him a cherished figure in the lives of all who knew him.
