William Henry Gibson, affectionately known as “Billy,” passed away on October 6, 2025, in his lifelong hometown of Indianapolis, Indiana. Born on March 28, 1954, he lived a full life marked by both personal and professional accomplishments that few could rival.
Billy dedicated a significant portion of his life to his career as a retired truck driver and mechanic. His work not only exemplified his strong work ethic but also showcased his skills in a field that demanded both precision and resilience. Throughout his career, he was well-regarded by peers and friends, who often noted his jovial spirit and lighthearted nature. A natural jokester, Billy earned the nickname “Mr. Cool,” earning laughter and smiles wherever he went.
Beyond his professional endeavors, Billy found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He possessed a deep love for fishing, particularly in the tranquil waters of Canada, where many cherished memories were created with family and friends. His devotion to his family was one of his proudest accomplishments, and he took tremendous pride in the relationships he fostered throughout his life.
Billy is survived by his brothers Mike (Sherrie) Gibson and Tony (Amanda Pearson) Gibson, along with his life partner Brenda Wessell. He found additional joy and fulfillment in his role as a stepfather to Brittney (Justin) Dowdy, and he was a loving step-grandfather to Carson Dowdy and Lillian Dowdy. He also cherished the time spent with his step-grandchildren Christian Wessell, Faith Wessell, and Noah Wessell, who brought light and laughter into his life. Furthermore, he leaves behind his beloved nieces, Frances and Dawn, as well as his step-siblings: Eddie, Billy, and Ricky Simpson and Kathy Simpson, Misty Swincher and Honey Gibson.
Billy was preceded in death by his son, Little Billy Gibson; his brother Tracy Gibson, sisters Kathy Gibson and Cindy Gibson, as well as his parents Bill and Shirley Gibson. He also mourned the loss of his step-brother Randy Simpson and step-sister Sheila Simpson.
As we reflect on the life of William Henry Gibson, we remember him not just for his accomplishments but for the warmth he brought into our lives. His legacy of love, laughter, and commitment to family will endure in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him.
