William Gilbert Obituary
William was born in Easton, PA on January 8, 1947 to the late William H. Gilbert Sr. and Myrtle Smiley Gilbert.
William was employed with Ingersoll-Rand Corp of Phillipsburg in the Heat-treat Department. He was a member of the Phillipsburg Fire Co. #1 for over 50 years, where he was Chief Driver.
William is survived by his wife of 57 years, JoAnne Matlock Gilbert; Son, William H. (Jill) Gilbert III; 9 Grandchildren; 3 Great-grandchildren; a Step-brother, Ronald Hendershot; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. William was predeceased by his Daughter, Amy Gilbert and his Siblings.
A Visitation for the Family and Friends of William will be held on Wednesday, February 4, 2026 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Rupell Funeral Home, LLC; 465 Memorial Pkwy; Phillipsburg, NJ 08865.

Mr Gilbert was an excellent influence on me as a kid! He was an avid Yankees fan & I am one because of him! He was a father to two of my best friends in my neighborhood. He and his wife are one of my favorite people on the planet! He will be missed in the old neighborhood but Be in my heart forever!
Please rest in peace, Mr Gilbert.....
