William Gilmore Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Carmon Windsor Funeral Home on Feb. 4, 2026.
William Charles Gilmore, affectionally known as "Skip", or "Chief", 80, of Hartford, CT, entered eternal rest on Monday, January 5, 2026. William was born April 1, 1945, in Hartford, CT, son of the late Henry and Louise Gilmore. William was educated in the Hartford Public School System. After high school, Wiliam enlisted in the United States Army where he served as a Para Trooper and received an Honorable Discharge after many years of faithful and dedicated service.

William was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend. William will be fondly remembered for his generous personality and willingness to always help and provide for others. William had a love of music and was a local DJ for over 20 years. William especially enjoyed Jazz and R&B and was a huge fan of James Brown. William will also be remembered for his collection of record albums, as these were sentimental to him.

William was a longtime member of American Legion McKenney King Post in Hartford. Over the years William was influential in coordinating many parades and marches. During the parades he led the Stowe Village Dear Devil Drill Team and often served with the Color Guard.

William had a close and personal relation with his Lord and Savoir. His walk with the Lord started at a young age. As an ordained minister and self-proclaimed orator, William was always there to give an encouraging word or simply a listening ear.

William was a huge joke teller. Entertaining all who crossed his path.

The passing of William will leave a permanent void in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. William leaves to celebrate his memory his daughters Charlotte Williams and Loree Ince; grandsons, Nigel Ince, Malichai Ince, Richard Williams, Shade' Cooper, Hugh Williams, Jr., and Laraba Mcglashen; great-grandson, Kaden Cooper; great- granddaughter, Kylee Cooper, and a host of other close relatives and friends.

Along with his parents, William was preceded in death by his sisters, Minnie, Dorthea, Mary, and Charlotte, and his brother Donald.

I miss you so much dad. No one greeted me like you did. Arms open wide and a loud "Ayyyeee, my baby". Dancing together to your favorite tunes. Telling me jokes every day too. I have such a void without you. I'm grateful for the memories. You told me once that I was your hero but you were mine. Love, void and sweet memories...your baby Charlotte.
