William G. Gottshall, of Hatboro, passed away peacefully on June 26, 2025, at the age of 79.

Born in Abington, PA, William was the beloved son of the late Earl and Pearl Gottshall. His life was one defined by dedication-first to his country, then to his community.

A proud U.S. Navy Veteran, William served aboard the USS Wasp during the Vietnam era. A major highlight while on the USS Wasp was participating in the Gemini recovery mission. After his military service, he continued his commitment to service by joining the Enterprise Fire Company of Hatboro in 1962, following in the footsteps of his older brother, the late Donald Gottshall. Starting as a junior member at the age of sixteen, William rose through the ranks to serve as lieutenant, captain, deputy chief and eventually chief-leading the company for three separate terms. Over his remarkable 63 years with the department, he also served on the board of directors and was instrumental in organizing the fire company's 100th anniversary parade-an accomplishment he held dear. In addition to his service to Enterprise Fire Company, He also spent six years with the Horsham Fire Department, where he served as Lieutenant for 2 years.

William was also a man who cherished his family and community life. He was extremely fond of his many cats. He enjoyed summers on Long Beach Island and more recently in Brigantine, NJ, where he created countless memories. He was known for his legendary Fourth of July and New Year's parties, his love of shuffleboard and volleyball, and his unwavering opinions as a staunch conservative and loyal Ford truck enthusiast. He believed in always having a back-up plan and had a meticulous attention to detail that defined everything he did.

He is survived by his sister, Virginia Zollers and her husband Alfred, his twin brother Richard Gottshall; nieces and nephews: Fred Zollers, Ryan Gottshall and his wife Kimberly, Angela Gottshall, and Matthew Zollers and his wife Kelly. He is also survived by his great-nieces and nephews: Olivia Zollers, Julia Gottshall, Hannah Gottshall, Ryan Gottshall, Jr., Benjamin Zollers, and Amanda Zollers.

Relatives and friends will be received by his family on Wedneday, July 2, 2025 after 10:00 am in Schneider Funeral Home, 431 N. York Road, Hatboro and are invited to attend his Funeral Service at 11:00 am. His interment will follow in Whitemarsh Memorial Park Cemetery, Ambler.
