Earlier today

I lived across from Eggie and Kathy when they lived on Kiskiminetas Dr. It was October, and I had a scarecrow with a flannel shirt on in my yard directly across from Kathy and Eggie´s house. What I didn´t realize is that my brother had been to my house earlier while I was at work and attached two green tomatoes to the scarecrow which were hanging below the shirt. I came home, started mowing the grass around the scarecrow never noticing the dangling tomatoes. What I did notice was Eggie sitting on their porch with the brim of his hat tipped low on his forehead watching me. I waved, he nodded, and I kept mowing. After probably making 5-6 passes by the scarecrow, I noticed the tomatoes. I shut the mower off, looked across at Eggie and yelled, " What are you looking at!" We both burst out laughing and he shook his head. One time he saw me cleaning under the mower, and he walked over and said "stop." He pulled the spark plug, and told me "never clean under a mower without pulling the plug." He fixed a leaky pipe in my garage and got a little snake out of a freaked out girl´s basement. He told me "don´t leave the garage door open." To this day I shut the garage door when I´m mowing grass. I really missed Kathy and Eggie when they moved into Oklahoma. I´ve thought about them often over the years, and I´ll never forget them. RIP, Eggie. You were one of the good ones.
