Surrounded by loving family and friends, William Grimsley, (Bill), age 75, of Canton, Ga., went to be with the Lord Wednesday, October 23, 2024. He was born December 18, 1948, in Robeson County, North Carolina.
As a young man, Bill attended Lumberton High School in Lumberton, NC, and went on to work at M.H. McLean's Wholesale where he was quickly appointed Warehouse Supervisor. A few years later, he moved to Marietta, Ga. and worked as a heavy equipment mechanic and as the Supply Supervisor for C.W. Matthew's Contracting Company. He was known as a hard worker and a good man. Bill was a member of Noonday Baptist Church in Marietta, Ga.
He was a man of many talents which he channeled into several hobbies. He enjoyed landscaping, fishing at the beach, cooking, home-redesigning and decorating, bargaining for rock bottom prices, refurbishing antiques, socializing with friends, and dancing. Bill's unique personality and way with words allowed him to make friends easily. He never knew a stranger, and always had a story to share. He loved and was loved by many.
Bill loved to square dance and was a member of two square dance clubs: the Wheel Arounds and the Kennesaw Square Dealers. He enjoyed round dancing, which included Waltz, Cha-Cha, and Rhumba moves. As an "angel" in square dancing, he guided several newcomers in practicing their moves around the floor, while offering words of encouragement. He especially enjoyed attending and serving others at their many fund raiser dinner socials and after-parties. He was considered a good man and fun to be around.
Bill is preceded in death by his father, Oscar Grimsley; his mother, Elise Grimsley; and his older brother John Randall Grimsley.
He is survived by his son, Glenn Grimsley; his daughter Lisa Britt; his lovely granddaughter, Tabitha Tucker; and five beautiful great-grandchildren; Jayden, Bobby, Joseph, Haley, and McKensie. Bill will be greatly missed as well by his five siblings: Betty Ingbretson, Linda Byrd (Jerry), Oscar Grimsley, Jr. (Paulette), Peggy Sasser, and Carol Cook (Jerry).
A time of visitation will be held Sunday, October 27, from 2:00-3:00, followed by a memorial service from 3:00-4:00 at Lakeside Funeral Home, 121 Claremore Drive, Woodstock, Ga 30188.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests donations be made to the charity of your choice.
