Obituary published on Legacy.com by Lakeside Funeral Home - Woodstock on Jan. 6, 2026.
Eric Michael Jones, age 69, passed away peacefully on January 2, 2026, at his home in
Canton, Georgia, surrounded by his loving wife, children, granddaughter, and sister-in-law.
Eric was a man who truly loved life and lived it fully. He found deep joy in the people he loved most-especially his wife of 33 years, Glenda Jones, who stood faithfully by his side through every season of life. He was immensely proud of his family and cherished every moment spent with his children, Bob and Monica Selby and Keenan and Sarah Parsons. Eric's face lit up when talking about his beautiful granddaughters, Tiegan Selby and Lily Parsons, who brought him endless happiness and purpose.
Eric's passions were wide and heartfelt. A dedicated Atlanta Braves fan, he also loved aviation and proudly held a private pilot's license. He enjoyed reading, golfing, running, traveling, riding his motorcycle and going to the movies. He loved his morning coffee, valued hard work, and took pride in a life well-lived. Above all, Eric cherished time spent going to church with his family and studying the Bible, which brought him strength and peace.
Eric also held a deep interest and reverence for history, especially Pearl Harbor. He was proud of his family connection to that pivotal moment in time, as his grandfather was on one of the PT boats and was involved in raising the flag when Pearl Harbor occurred-an enduring story of courage and service that Eric honored throughout his life.
Eric was born in
Gainesville, Florida, and spent much of his elementary years enjoying the white sandy beaches of the Florida coast. He later moved to Decatur, Alabama, where he graduated from Austin High School and played trombone in the band. After high school, Eric enlisted in the United States Air Force, serving his country proudly for four years. He loved America deeply and was always honored to call himself a veteran.
Eric went on to earn his Bachelor's degree in Professional Aeronautics from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. He spent 26 years with Delta Air Lines in Atlanta, beginning his career as an airline technician and rising to the role of Avionics Coordinator before retiring. He later worked with FedEx in Memphis for 10 years, where he also retired.
The family would like to extend sincere gratitude to Eric's caretakers. Thank you to the wonderful hospice nurses and CNAs who loved on him and made his last few years comfortable.
Even though Huntington's Disease robbed us of him earlier than we would have wished, it is not what defined him and his life.
Eric will be deeply missed by all who loved him.
