In Loving Memory of William Gutkowski Sr.
FITCHBURG: It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of William, affectionately known as Bill, who left us peacefully on February 26, 2025, at the age of 96. Bill was a long-time resident of Fitchburg and Leominster. He passed away in Scottsdale, AZ after a lengthy battle with dementia.
Mr. Gutkowski's journey began in New York City as the son of Anthony and Anna (Gaydos) Gutkowski. Early in his childhood the family moved to New Hyde Park, Long Island. During the Koren War, Mr. Gutkowski served in the United States Army and was stationed at Fort Devens. For much of his career Bill worked as a moldmaker at Standard Tool in Leominster and later at Advance Tool / TRW in Fitchburg, retiring in 1993.
He enjoyed playing golf, bowling, traveling, and loved John Wayne movies and westerns. William's legacy is one of love, kindness, and humor.
While living in Fitchburg, Bill was a member of St. Joseph's Church. In 1997 he was predeceased by his wife, Vera J. (Coburn) Gutkowski. He leaves his son, William Gutkowski Jr. and wife, Kathleen (Pauley) of Scottsdale, AZ, and Lowell. From Long Island, he leaves his nephew, Roy Reissig and wife, Gale, niece Rosemary Brown and her husband Daniel.
He was predeceased by his brother Anthony Gutkowski, Jr, his sister, Rose Reissig and her husband Lou, as well as Bill's longtime companion Emily Bilotta.
A private interment service will be held at St. Anthony Cemetery, Shirley in the Spring. The Anderson Funeral home in Ayer is assisting the family with arrangements.
