Robert Lavery Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Anderson Funeral Home - Townsend on Jan. 22, 2026.
ASHBURNHAM/TOWNSEND: Robert F. Lavery, 73, of Ashburnham, formerly of Townsend and Billerica, died Tuesday, January 20, 2026 at Boston Medical Center, Boston.

Bob was born in Billerica, April 4, 1952, one of eight children born to William and Rita (Langley) Lavery and grew up in Billerica. He was a 1970 graduate of Billerica High School, where he played baseball. He started working for New England Telephone immediately after graduation and continued in the telecommunications field for many years proudly working for JCI Communications and FTG Technologies.

He resided in Townsend for over forty years before moving to his Ashburnham lake home in 2021.

Bob was happily married for 42 years to his childhood sweetheart and the love of his life, Nancy, until her passing in 2018. Their relationship was a precious, gorgeous example of partnership, devotion, and enduring love - one that will continue to live on through their family.

He spent much of his free time coaching youth sports in Townsend, where his enthusiastic heart, infectious smile, and warm embrace left a lasting mark on hundreds of children in the community. Coaching wasn't just something he did - it was who he was. He loved the game, but he loved the kids even more. And the feeling was mutual. That same joy carried over to the sidelines as he cheered on his three sons and five grandchildren in everything they pursued, on and off the field.

He also found peace in fishing and truly cherished the quiet hours spent on the water, especially when they were shared with his sons and close friends.

He leaves three sons, Robert F. Lavery Jr., and his wife, Sandi of Lunenburg, Steven J. Lavery and his wife, Mallory and Brian W. Lavery and his wife, Lael all of Townsend; four brothers, William Lavery of Townsend, Charles Lavery of Nashua, Edward Lavery of Shirley, Thomas Lavery of Billerica; three sisters, Linda Byrnes of Lunenburg, Joma Connors and Dinah Powderly both of Billerica; five grandchildren, Daphne Lavery, Maxwell Lavery, Gwenevere Lavery, Calvin Lavery and Fionnoula Lavery.

Funeral services will be held 11 AM Wednesday, January 28, 2026 at the Anderson Funeral Home, 250 Main Street (Rte 119) Townsend Center. Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery.

Bob's family will receive relatives and friends at calling hours from 4-7 PM Tuesday, January 27th in the funeral home.

Our condolences to the family of Bob Lavery. I went to BMHS and graduated with Bobby. He was always a great guy and all about family. Shared a few beers with him over the next few years then we both married and raised our own families.
Only saw each other a few times over the years but he was always smiling and ready to share a laugh. We met againa few months agoat another classmates wake and caught up a bit.
My best memory is that he is the guy who convinced me that I should ask out the lady who became my wife (of 48+ years) and mother of our 4 children. I guess I should say thanks, Guido, you did good in this world! And we´ll miss you. RIP

To the Lavery boys and the entire family-friends my heart goes out to you all. Each of you know what type of man and friend your father was to me. Our friendship starter with soccer as it did hor many others. Then there was Barton cove and it all began a 30 + years of fishing , laughter, friendship & support.
BOB you will be missed greatly.
Be assured you'll be in my heart every time my line hits the water.
All my love Guy
