Townsend – Paul R. Murphy, 85, passed away peacefully at home with his loving family by his side on January 17, 2026.

Paul was born in Boston on April 23, 1940 and after graduating high school, enlisted in the US Army, where he proudly served his country. Upon returning home he began his career in the automotive repair industry, obtaining certification and eventually becoming the owner of The Doctor, Inc. in Acton as well as Paul Murphy, Inc. in Westford. He had extensive knowledge of all vehicles, specializing in both Saab and Volvo; He earned such a reputation for perfection, he was asked to build a car for the King of Sweden.

Amongst his family and friends, he was affectionately known as "Mr. Fix It" or "Uncle Paul". He loved spending time with his family, and the children simply adored him. He enjoyed woodworking, camping on Cape Ann and taking road trips whenever possible. Paul loved watching movies; he was an avid fan of John Wayne and Star Trek.

He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Cheryl (Allan) Murphy of Townsend; his children, Paul R. "Rick" Murphy, Jr. and wife Jody, Thomas Murphy, both of Billerica, Kristen Saunders and husband Mark of Townsend, and Heather Grise and husband Joe of Nashua, NH; grandchildren, Tom, Amanda, Ricky, Erin, Katelyn, Ava, Maggie, Kyla, Neave, and Keeva; great grandchildren, Evelyn, Thomas, and Kristina; his sister, Rita Sendowski of Florida and several nieces and nephews.

Paul was predeceased by his siblings Howard, John, Roddy, and Danny Murphy.

Calling hours will be held on Friday, January 23 from 4-7pm in the Anderson Funeral Home, 250 Main St., Townsend. Paul's funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, January 24, at 10am in St. John's Church, 1 School St., Townsend. Burial in Hillside Cemetery will be held at a later date.
