William Robert Haller passed away on February 22nd, 2024 in Des Moines, Iowa. Bill was born in Kanawha, Iowa on November 14th, 1934 to his late parents, Chester and Daisy Haller. The family moved to Des Moines in 1940 to pursue a business venture.
Bill went to North High School and graduated in 1953. After graduation, Bill went to work for the railroad until he was drafted to the Army in 1957. He was sent to Fort Carson in Colorado for basic training and continued on to Fort Sill in Oklahoma for radar school. Bill went on to become a radar instructor until his honorable discharge in February 1959.
Shortly after that, Bill started his business, Hawkeye Pallet Co., located in Johnston, which he owned and operated for 65 years. Bill took great pride in staying active within his business, working daily all the way up to November of this past fall.
Bill married Judy Tyler in September 1963 and together they raised four children. He was the most loving and generous husband, dad, and grandpa (Boo-Boo). Bill loved the Cubs and Hawkeyes, but most of all, his family and friends.
Bill is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Judy; children Tommi Adams (Greg), Tracy Coakley (Mike), John Haller (Kim); grandchildren Heather, Billy, Tyler, Jennifer, Meredith, Courtney, Taylor, Logan, and Brooklyn; and nine great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son Tyler and his siblings Dick, Jack, and Avis.
Bill was a member of Highland Park Christian Church since 1965.
A visitation will be held on Monday, February 26 from 5-7 PM at Illes Westover Funeral Home at 6337 Hickman Road, Des Moines. On Tuesday, February 27 at 10:30 AM, a graveside service and burial will take place at Glendale Cemetery for family and friends who would like to attend.
The family would like to encourage all memorial gifts to be directed to your personal organization of choice.
