William Thomas Hardy

William Thomas Hardy of Fairfax Station, Virginia, passed away on March 30, 2025, at the age of 81.
Mr. Hardy was born to Charlotte Deterding Hardy and William Baptist Hardy and grew up in Bound Brook, New Jersey. He graduated from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 1966 and later earned a Master of Engineering degree from Northeastern University and a Master of Business Administration degree from Bentley University.
Mr. Hardy's career as an electronics engineer spanned almost forty-five years. Working for the Department of the Navy for most of this time, and later for the Center for Naval Analyses, he was a critical part of designing and supporting Navy programs that are used extensively today.
He loved engineering and technology throughout his life and it was the focus of much of his free time. He built a ham radio as a boy and continued to build his own computers and write software even after retirement. An avid traveler, he visited Europe frequently and enjoyed seeing things off the beaten path.
He had lived in Fairfax Station for the last thirty-six years.
Mr. Hardy is survived by his wife, Janet Anastasia Hardy, his daughter, Stephanie Braford, his granddaughter, Ashley Curtice, his daughter, Catherine (Matthew Shaw), their three children, Madeline, Camilla, and Eloise, and his sister Christine Hardy Sudell (William Sudell) and their daughters Andrea Davey and Pamela Park. He was preceded in death by his son, Kurt Thomas Hardy.
The family will hold a private ceremony to honor Tom's life and legacy. Beyond his personal achievements, he will be remembered for his intelligence and generosity. He will be deeply missed as a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend.
