William S. "Bill" Herald, 89, passed away on May 4, 2024, at Norton Scott Hospital in Scottsburg, Indiana. Bill was born on August 7, 1934, in Owsley County, Kentucky, to the late Shelby Herald and Amanda (Riley) Herald. He attended Sunnyside School in Austin, Indiana. Bill married the love of his life, Ruth Ann Effinger, on September 19, 1975, who survives. Bill and Ruth Ann were longtime members of Alpha Baptist Church in Deputy, Indiana, where he served as a deacon. He worked for many years as a Certified Sheet Metal Worker, being a part of the Sheet Metal Workers Local #110. Bill was also an active member in the Scott County community being a member of the Scott Lodge #120 Masonic Lodge and a reserve sheriff's deputy. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Harlan Riley and James Herald; three sisters, Virginia Herald, Ruby Everhart, and Pollie Berry; and son-in-law, Paul Shepherd. In addition to his wife Ruth Ann, Bill is survived by son, B. Scotty (Leeann) Herald; daughter, Michelle Herald Shepherd; brother, Bruce (Margaret) Herald; sister, Velma R. Bridgewater; eight grandchildren, Megan (Garrett) Messer, Nathan Shepherd, Paul Shepherd, Jr., Harrison Shepherd, Michael Baker, David G'Fellers, Brittany (Shea) Miles, and Justin G'Fellers; and seven great grandchildren, Savannah, Josie, Ellie, Sawyer, Millie Rose, Harper, and Damian. The services for Bill will be held on Friday, May 10, 2024, at 11:00 am at Collins Funeral Home in Scottsburg, Indiana. Visitation Thursday, May 9, 2024, at 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Collins Funeral Home and prior to services Friday at 10:00 am. Interment will follow at Wesley Chapel Cemetery in Austin, Indiana. Memorial donations can be made in Bill's name to Alpha Baptist Church in c/o Collins Funeral Home in Scottsburg, Indiana. Expressions of sympathy and memories of Bill can be shared online at www.collinsfuneralhome.net.
