William David Hewitt, 91, of Stuart, FL, and previously of Manchester, CT, loving husband to Elizabeth "Betty" (Frazier) Hewitt, passed away on Wednesday, December 17, 2025. He was born November 12, 1934, in Manchester, son to the late John and Margaret (Poots) Hewitt.
William attended Manchester schools before joining the U.S. Navy. During his time with the Navy, he was stationed in Norfolk, VA, aboard the U.S.S. Sierra. After leaving the service, he went to work for Pratt & Whitney Aircraft in East Hartford, retiring in 1991. He and his wife, Betty, moved to Florida in 1996. Music was a big part of his life. He played lead guitar in a country band for 25 years with Dub Tyler & the Good Guys. He enjoyed playing golf at different clubs in the FL area. He was a member of the Masonic Friendship Lodge #145 Manchester AF + AM.
He leaves his wife of 69 years, Betty of Stuart, FL; his three boys, Mark of Manchester, CT, Bruce and Karen of St. Augustine, FL, and Bryan and Angela of Somers, CT; his three grandsons, Dan Hewitt of Stafford, CT, Nicholas Hewitt of Somers, CT, and Jefferey Adam Ziruk of Newington, CT.
Funeral services for William will be held privately. Burial will be held in the Hillstown Road Veterans Cemetery in Manchester. Samsel & Carmon Funeral Home, in South Windsor, are in care of his arrangements.
