William Higgins Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home - Tidewater Drive Chapel on Jan. 6, 2026.
William Evan "Bill" Higgins, 90, passed away peacefully on December 28, 2025. He was born on September 11, 1935, in Flint, MI, to the late Evan William and Helen R. (McIntyre) Higgins. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 51 years, Kathie (Calhoun) Higgins, as well as his brother, James C. Higgins, and sister, Mary H. Maclean.
Bill graduated from Flint Central High School in 1954 and then proudly served 20 years in the United States Navy, retiring as a Chief Hospital Corpsman in 1973. He then settled in Norfolk, Virginia, and worked for an additional 20 years as a biomedical equipment technician at the Hampton VA Medical Center. He retired from his second career in 1994.
Above all else, Bill was a devoted family man and avid outdoorsman. He cherished time spent with family and enjoyed traveling, gardening, hunting, and fishing.
Left to cherish his memory: his daughters, Heather Schulz (Albert) and Holly Didawick (Josh); sons, William Higgins (Margaret), and Samuel Higgins; grandchildren, William, Amelia, Abigail, Allison, Debra, Anne, and Evan; and great-grandchild, Jaxon.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 17, 2026, at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Tidewater Drive Chapel. A graveside service will follow at 1:30 p.m. at Forest Lawn Cemetery. In place of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Virginia Zoo or the Virginia Wildlife Center, honoring Bill's lifelong appreciation for nature and wildlife. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.hollomon-brown.com.
