William Howell Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Ulmer Funeral Home - Carthage on May 15, 2024.
William Carlton "Bill" Howell, age 76, of Carthage, Missouri, passed away May 14,
2024, at Mercy Hospital in Joplin, Missouri.
Bill was born April 25, 1948, in Carthage, Missouri to Louis Earl Howell and Mary
Augusta (Powers-O'Dell) Howell. On November 27, 1968, Bill married Henry Etta
Kaderly in Jasper, MO.
After graduating from the University of Missouri-Rolla, Bill was a professional
engineer and worked in generation at Empire District Electric Company for 38 years,
where he made countless friends and helped build the State Line Combined Cycle
power station. Bill was an active member of the Mt. Moriah Methodist Church and
served on the board for many years; he enjoyed pulling the hay wagon for the church
youth during Halloween and working with the congregation to complete the
Fellowship Hall. He was also president of the Paradise Cemetery board for many
years. He loved the outdoors and hiked the Grand Canyon with his son, his wife, and
his friends on multiple occasions. He completed the MS 150 bike ride several times.
Most of all, he loved spending time with his family on the family farm: going to
countless ball games and horse shows, taking his grandsons fishing, working in the
garden with his wife, and keeping things running smoothly at the annual 4 th of July
farm event.
Survivors include his wife, Henry Etta; one daughter, Christine Howell of Overland
Park, Kansas; one son, David (Lisa) Howell of Olathe, Kansas; three grandchildren,
Matthew, Alex, and Andrew Howell of Olathe, Kansas; one sister, Janice (O'Dell)
Kaughman of Carthage, Missouri.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Virginia (O'Dell) Jordan; and one
brother, Donald O'Dell.
The memorial visitation and celebration of life will be held at 10:00 AM, Monday, May 20, 2024, at Mt.
Moriah Methodist Church in Jasper, Missouri.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to
the Mt. Moriah Church Building Fund.
