William Cecil Hunt, 69, passed away on August 1, 2024 in Jacksonville Beach, FL, surround by his wife, children and grandson, Lincoln. He was born on April 15, 1955 in Dunedin, FL, to the late Marvin Oswald Hunt and Betty Jane Hunt.
Bill graduated from Dunedin High School, class of 1973. He joined the US Navy in 1977 and served for 21 years. During his service, he supported squadrons, HSL 30 Norfolk, VA, VP 24, VP 30, HS 5 NAS Jax and HSL 32 NS Mayport. Bill served on tours in Bermuda, Iceland and the Azores, and visited many countries aboard the USS Bowen and USS Stark. He was on the USS George Washington for its inaugural cruise. While serving he also earned his BA degree from New York University, NY. He retired at the rank of Senior Chief Avionics Tech in 1998.
After his military career, in 1998, Bill went to work at the USPS, Atlantic Beach station. During his time there he serviced hundreds of families and made many wonderful lifetime friends from his routes, before retiring in April 2019.
Bill loved music, going to concerts and local live shows. The music filled many weekends and allowed us to meet many wonderful artists we now call friends. In his free time, Bill enjoyed woodworking, a skill he learned from his friend, Red, and had begun passing it on to his grandson, Jacolby. He loved working in his garden and decorating the yard for Halloween, his favorite holiday. But his most cherished moments were times spent with family and the grandkids. He enjoyed sharing his love and knowledge of music and stories of his travels and childhood. Bill was a loving husband, a wonderful father, the best papa ever and a good friend to so many.
Bill is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Patricia A. Hunt; his children, Sarah Lynn Ford (Melvin) and Brian Myers Hunt (Leslie); grandchildren, Jaylen, Jacolby, Leah and Lincoln, as well as sisters, Linda G. Hunt (Andy) and Karen D. Midkiff-Hunt; cousin, Anita Griswold; niece, Kyndal; nephews, Zachary and Holden; Uncle Herman "Gene" Martin (Margaret) of Ft. White and many other family members and friends.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bill's honor to the ALS Association or a veteran's organization.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 31, 2024, 11:00 a.m. at 9Thirteen Christian Church, 2560 Mayport Road, Jacksonville, FL 32233. At a later date, Bill will be placed at Jacksonville National Cemetery in Jacksonville, FL.

Bill was my best friend, the love of my life, father to our children, papa to our grandchildren, a loving supportive brother and a great friend to so many. Your passing has forever changed our world and left a void no one can fill. So many plans to go places that we won´t see. I am trying to carry on but know it is so difficult without you by my side
I loved you for over 50 years and that love and memories are all I have to hang on to You are forever in my heart

My husband and I purchased our first home together and we were so lucky to have bill and Trisha as our neighbors they welcomed us into the neighborhood with open arms. Mr. bill was an amazing man always busy so artistic and we were so lucky to have known him.

He was a great, happy go lucky gentleman to work with. During the holidays he would always volunteer to bring his delicious fiend turkeys to really make our luncheons special. S.I.P. friend.

Fond memories of serving with ATC Hunt in HS-5. I once needed a three day weekend off, and he gave it to me on the condition I join the nuke load team. As luck would have it, after I got that weekend off, the program was cancelled. I thought I got away with one, but he revised our deal and told me I had just joined the torp load team. Having a good relationship and much respect for the man, I didn't put up a fight. God bless you Chief.

Bill and I served together in Helicopter Squadron HS-5, and we both delivered mail in Jacksonville. Bill was the most intelligent, compassionate person I have ever had the privilege to work and know. May God rest his soul!
