William "Bill" D. Husaboe, 84, of Trent, passed away on Saturday, February 7, 2026 at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls. His funeral service will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, February 13, 2026 at the Trent Baptist Church. Interment will be in the Riverview Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 12, 2026 at Kahler-Brende Funeral Home.

William Dale Husaboe was born November 19, 1941, to M. Donald and Maimie (Lund) Husaboe in Chester, SD. He grew up in Trent and attended Trent School for 12 years, graduating from Trent High School in 1960. His class was the first to graduate in the new gym the students had helped to build. Bill holds the career record for tardies due to the grueling walk across the corner to school every morning and noon. After graduation Bill traveled to St. Louis, MO, for training in Auto Mechanics at the Bailey Institute, graduating there in 1962. Bill then joined his father and grandfather in the Lund Garage in Trent. In 1964 the business became Husaboe Garage with Bill and Don as mechanics until Don's passing in 1974. Bill sold the garage in 1984 and worked a variety of jobs until 1990 when he was hired by Wal-Mart to set up the south Louise store in Sioux Falls. He remained there until his retirement in 2012.
Bill married Marlene Jorgenson on March 6, 1977, in Trent. Bill & Marlene were named SD Foster Parents of the Year in the mid-1980s, providing a loving home to a total of 18 children. Their permanent children include Nora Ann, Lawrence Robert, Travis Don, Lisa Marie, James Dean, Tamara Lynn, and Paul Fredrick.
In 2021 Bill was honored as the longest Trent resident. He was a life-long member of the Trent Baptist Church, serving on a number of committees & boards and ushering at church services and funerals for over 60 years. He was also a Trent Volunteer Fireman until retirement.
Bill's second favorite place was Baptist Camp Judson in the Black Hills. He cherished his camping experiences from his first youth camp there in 1956 to his last visit in 2025. He passed that love along to his family, taking them to Family Camp starting in 1983 and including grandchildren in the 2000s.
Bill leaves a legacy of love survived by his wife, Marlene, and children Nora Kortuem, Minneapolis MN; Lawrence (Teresa) Husaboe, Ft. Pierre, SD; Travis Husaboe, Trent, SD; James (Rebecca) Dubro, Brookings, SD; Tamara (Jacob) Liesinger, Trent, SD; and Paul (April) Husaboe, Dell Rapids, SD. Cherished grandchildren are Michael and Matthew Kortuem; Juzeah Husaboe; Luken, Adelaide, and Madeline Dubro; and Bethany and (Bill's namesake) William Liesinger. Bill is also survived by a sister, Shirley Caruso, Ellisville, MO; his brother, Stanley Husaboe, Sioux falls, SD; and a host of nephews and nieces. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Don & Maimie Husaboe; his parents-in-law, Lynn & Celia Jorgenson; a daughter, Lisa Husaboe; and a sister, Donna Marshall.
