I was friend to Jerry and Katherine for about three years before Jerry´s final illness. Jerry was a very kind man who really loved cats and dogs. He was always picking up a dog someone threw out on a highway. He would pull over his 18 wheeler and stop to go back and get the poor animal. They had three lovely dogs. One was a St. Bernard named Bernadette. I have a beautiful black cat that Jerry rescued. The neighbor kids were throwing rocks at this little kitten. The mommy cat was feral. Jerry ran the kids off and picked up the kitten. She was very tiny. Katherine said they had too many pets and asked me if I would take her. I named her Haley after the Comet. Oddly enough, Jerry had a cousin named Haley. I still have Haley. Katherine passed away in September 2022 while living with her daughter in North Manchester, Indiana. Jerry´s cremains were sent to his sister who was living in Georgia with her daughter. I lost touch with her after she left her home in Lakeland, Florida. I am sure Jerry is resting peacefully in heaven with all of his family.
By the way, all of his family and friends knew him as "Jerry," not William or Bill.
