William Johnson Obituary

William E. Johnson, 80, of Murrysville, formerly of Penn Hills, passed away on Oct. 14, 2025, at his home surrounded by his family. He was born on Oct. 14, 1945, in Pittsburgh, son of the late John William and Pauline (Hermann) Johnson. Bill was a trombone player, avid photographer, and passionate car enthusiast. He marched in the Penn Hills High School marching band and shared his love for music with his family. As a result, his children and grandchildren are all musicians. Bill was also an avid photographer, mostly enjoying nature-related photos. He had very specific ideas with regard to the cameras and lenses he used and at one point even had a darkroom in the basement to develop his own photos. Bill was a very passionate car enthusiast, owning anywhere between five to eight cars at any given time of various makes and models. He shared this passion with his family and friends, helping folks fix their cars, as well as enjoying racing, cruising, swap meets, and car shows of all sizes, from national meets to local gatherings. Bill proudly served in the United States Navy, rising to the rank of E-4 during his military service to our country. Bill is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Sally (Rhoads) Johnson; his daughter and son, Catharine (William) Seman and Will (Samantha) Johnson; his three grandchildren, Arielle, Gabrielle, and Preston; his sister, Judith Jeynes; and his best friend, Jim Bova. Visitation for Bill will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 17, 2025, at HART FUNERAL HOME INC., in Murrysville. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 18, 2025, at Trinity Tower United Methodist Church in Penn Hills (everyone please meet at the church), followed by interment in Murrysville Cemetery, with military honors accorded by the United States Navy.
