William "Bill" L. Jonas, 75, of Belmont, passed away November 29, 2024 at Levine Dickson Hospice House in Huntersville. "Bill" was born on October 14, 1949 in Mecklenburg County, NC to his late parents Paul and Nellie Mae Jonas. He is also preceded by his brothers Marshall and Ronnie Jonas. He was known as Captain Bill Jonas after a 30 year career with the Belmont Police Department. He was a longtime member of East Belmont Baptist Church where he was a past Deacon and Youth Director. He enjoyed fishing in his boat, camping and always had a garden. He was Past Master of the Belmont Masonic Lodge and was a US Navy Veteran serving in the Vietnam War. Bill loved his family and enjoyed playing golf with his son Caleb.
Survivors include his son, Caleb Jonas and wife Anna and Sisters, Cecilia Jonas Lucas and husband Butch and Angie Jonas Biggerstaff and her husband Lee. He also leaves behind his precious granddaughter, Stratton Jonas along with many nieces and nephews.
Celebration of Life Services will be held at 2:00 pm Thursday Dec. 5 at East Belmont Baptist Church, 501 E. Catawba St. Belmont with the Rev. Jeff Taylor officiating. Visitation will begin at 1:00 PM, also at the church. Inurnment will be private
