William Kaynor Obituary

William Kirk Kaynor III
1943 - 2024
Suffield, CT
William Kirk Kaynor III, passed away on March 18, 2024, a week before his 81st birthday, most likely from heart failure as he walked up his cellar stairs with a big box of paper intended for sorting.
Kirk grew up in Longmeadow, with parents Bill and Bunnie Kaynor. He is survived by sisters Kate Turpie and Nancy Kaynor, their husbands, several nieces and nephews, grand nieces and nephews and many cousins. He graduated from Watkinson School in Hartford and Nichols College in Dudley, MA. He spent nearly 30 years working as an actuary in the insurance division of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
Kirk was gifted with numbers. He used mathematical formulae as mnemonic devices for remembering information, and in his favorite parlor trick – quickly determining the day of the week anyone was born. (His was Friday.) Nobody could beat him in a game of cards. He would fold up his hand partway through knowing by the numbers that he had already won the game.
He was an avid square dance participant and caller, and enjoyed dancing and calling all around New England. He wrote and performed many square dance "tips".
Kirk had a lifelong passion for trains, beginning in grade school, where he embellished every single art project regardless of the assignment with a fully rendered string of rail cars. He enjoyed mapping railroad station track layouts. He was an active member of the Connecticut Valley Chapter National Railway Historical Society, and the Nutmeg Division National Model Railroad Association.
He has lived since retirement in the home his parents built in Suffield, with a beautiful view of the river and the railroad tracks on the far side.
He is sorely missed by his long standing care-giver, Peggy Cauley, and by his two sisters, Flunky and Defenseless (Nancy and Kitty.)
Kirk's family will receive friends and share stories on Thursday, March 28 from 4-7PM at the Nicholson & Carmon Funeral Home, 443 East Street N. (Rt 159), Suffield. To leave on-line condolences please visit www.carmonfuneralhome.com

I was very sorry to hear of Kirk's passing. I had just been thinking of him just a week ago! I remember him mostly from Callers School but also a convention or two. He was always fun to watch, playing his kazoo, which he loved. Harmonica too I believe. A nice person, lots of smiles...he'll be missed. Sincere condolences to the family.

I am sorry to hear about Kirk. I knew him as a fellow square dance caller. It was wonderful to watch him grow as a caller. I will miss his smile. He was a gentle soul who added a lot to our activity. My sympathy to his family. Clint
