William Kelley Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Hamel-Lydon Chapel & Cremation Service of Massachusetts on Jan. 19, 2026.
William P. Kelley, age 89, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 12, 2026, in Hingham, Massachusetts.

Born on March 6, 1936, in Boston, he was the beloved son of the late Michael and Teresa Kelley. William will be remembered as a devoted son, brother, uncle, and friend whose life was marked by kindness, simple joy, and a genuine willingness to help others.

One of seven children, William was raised in the Jamaica Plain neighborhood of Boston. The family later moved to Quincy, where William and his mother shared a home for many years. In his later years, he resided with his beloved brother Fred and Fred's wife, Ann, in Belmont, whose love and care were a great comfort to him.

Born with some intellectual disabilities, William approached life with determination, warmth, and an open heart. He lived fully and meaningfully and was proud of his 44 years of dedicated employment at Massachusetts General Hospital, where he found purpose, meaningful connections, and a strong sense of belonging.

William especially enjoyed spending time with his mother, including traveling with her to Ireland to visit family. He also found great pleasure in working in the yard alongside his brother Freddy, taking long walks into the city, sharing weekly lunches with his brother Thomas, following Boston sports teams, and enjoying scratch cards-where he was famously very lucky.

William is survived by his brother, Thomas of Quincy, his sister-in-law Ann, many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews, and dear friends.

He was predeceased by his brothers Fred and Bernard, and his sisters Brenda, Eileen, and Margaret.

The family extends sincere gratitude to Bridges® by EPOCH for the compassionate care provided to William in his final years.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Thursday, January 22, at 8:30 a.m. at the Hamel-Lydon Funeral Home, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, Quincy, Massachusetts.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Massachusetts General Hospital, in appreciation of the many years William devoted to its community.

William was such a genuine and kind hearted man. Only to be equaled or surpassed by his dear eldest brother Fred. William was always in perpetual motion executing every task imaginable throughout the neighborhood.

Ann and Fred were so kind to their brother (and brother-in-law) and that kindness towards William continued via his beloved nieces and nephews.

We are blessed to call the Kelley Family friends and neighbors. Their love and dedication of family was readily apparent and became a lovely life lesson for our four children to observe growing up.

William you will be missed but I am confident you are now cloud free and celebrating with family. God bless you old friend. "Don´t tell anyone!" I never did.

Peace and love,

David & Tracy Ramsey & Family
