William M. Lahey, aged 91, of Broomall, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on August 29, 2025. Bill lived a life enriched by a diverse array of experiences and passions, leaving behind a legacy of love and dedication to his family, community, and country.
A proud veteran of the Army of the United States National Guard, Bill served valiantly as a Sergeant First Class in 3rd Battalion, 111th Infantry Regiment. His military service instilled in him a deep love for his country and a sense of pride that he carried throughout his life.
Bill's career began early as a mechanic, fueled by a lifelong passion for cars. However, after meeting Ann, the love of his life, he transitioned to work as a Store Manager for various retail food chains. In retirement, he yet again shifted gears, taking on the role of a driver for nursing homes and a school bus driver for Marple Township School District, where he continued to serve the community with commitment and care, receiving many awards for his exemplary service.
A true Philadelphia sports fan, he cherished watching Eagles games, win or lose. His love for music was equally profound; he was especially fond of country music, looking up to iconic artists like Johnny Cash and the Beach Boys. Bill savored playing guitar in his youth, relishing moments when he could turn up the music loud, reminiscent of vibrant rock concerts. He also had a love for gardening and nature, he was often found working outside. Fishing trips in his younger years and enjoying rides on his son-in-law, Nino’s boat fueled his zest for life. A lover of animals, he took joy in caring for many family pets over the years.
Among his proudest accomplishments were his children: Anna Marie Lahey, Eileen (Chuck) Egolf, Patricia (Antonino) Lahey-Prestipino, Christopher (Brenda) Lahey, and Rosemarie (the late David) Lahey. Bill passed down strong values of faith, hard work, humor, and an appreciation for life's simple joys to his family. He took immense pride in his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, leaving a lasting impression on their lives. Bill was the adoring grandfather of ten, as well as a proud great-grandfather of ten.
He was predeceased by his cherished wife Anna Marie (nee Matsinger), his parents, two brothers, two sisters, and two grandchildren, Melissa and Shawn Goetz, along with his great-grandchild Sonny Goetz. His love for Ann and the shared moments in her Legion of Mary activities at St. Pius X Church highlighted the importance of faith in his life. The church was a significant place for Bill, where he expressed his love for God through regular attendance at Mass.
Bill Lahey's memory will forever be cherished by all who knew him, as he leaves behind a rich tapestry of love, faith, and dedication woven throughout the lives of his family and friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to his Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday, September 4, 2025 at 1:00pm at St. Pius X Church, 220 Lawrence Road, Broomall.
