Obituary published on Legacy.com by Watkins Brothers Funeral Homes – MacDonald Chapel - Howell on Jul. 10, 2025.
William "Bill" Charles Lezotte, age 91 of Howell, passed away on July 8, 2025. He was born November 10, 1933, in Detroit, Michigan, the son of John and Florence (Delisle) Lezotte.
Bill attended St. Theresa Catholic High School, where he left a lasting legacy as a three-sport all-state champion. His talents on the field caught the attention of the Brooklyn Dodgers, who drafted him into their minor league baseball system. However, his athletic career was put on hold when he was drafted into the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Serving his country with honor for two years, Bill returned home with the same dedication and strength he displayed on the playing fields.
On February 15, 1958, Bill married his best friend and soulmate, Sarah A. Ross, in a ceremony in Detroit that celebrated their lifelong partnership. Together, they shared a love that was evident to all who knew them, and they created a family and home filled with love and laughter. After his military service, Bill embarked on a new chapter as an electrician. For over 35 years, he was a proud member of Local 58, where he was known for his skill, reliability, and camaraderie with his fellow electricians. His commitment to service extended beyond his professional life as he was a devoted member of the Knights of Columbus for 74 years, embodying their principles of charity, unity, fraternity, and patriotism.
Bill's passion for sports continued as he became an influential coach and athletic director. He coached baseball, basketball, and football at Our Lady of Loretto, inspiring young athletes with his knowledge and enthusiasm for the games. He also coached various baseball summer leagues, imparting his love for the sport to a new generation. After retiring, golfing became a significant part of Bill's life. He enjoyed the game until he was 90, often sharing the greens with friends and family. His competitive spirit was also evident in his love for poker and deer hunting, activities that brought him joy and camaraderie. Bill cherished the times spent at his place in Alger, Michigan, where he could immerse himself in the tranquility of nature and the company of loved ones. Above all things, Bill loved spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Bill is survived by his loving children, Mark Lezotte, Jim (Kellee) Lezotte, Bill (Lisa) Lezotte, Anne Lezotte, Marie Donnelly, Suzanne (Erik) Ostergard, Celeste (Karl) Brooks, Joe (Chrisy) Lezotte, Dan (Ginny) Lezotte; 17 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; and his siblings, Elaine, Pat, Jack, Jill, Mary Grace, Dorothy, Kay, Bernie.
Bill was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Sarah Lezotte; parents, John and Florence Lezotte; and his siblings, Jim, Jean, and Janet.
